Mission: Sacristans serve God and support the liturgies and sacraments of the Cathedral by preparing the altar, the sacred articles, and vessels associated with the sacraments.
What we do: Sacristans keep the tabernacle and sacristy secure. They set up before the Mass and purify the sacred vessels after the weekday and weekend Masses. They may be requested to assist at baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Sacristans ensure the altar servers, the readers, ushers, gift bearers, and the Extraordinary Ministers are in place and ready to serve before Mass begins.
Membership: Members must be a registered parishioner, be approved by the rector, be at least 15 years of age, be an active, practicing Catholic, and have a desire to serve our Lord.
Meetings: Meetings are held quarterly, usually before a Church season such as Lent, Advent, or Ordinary Time.
Training/Preparation: The sacristan coordinator trains new members.
Point of Contact: Diane Trumbull through the Cathedral Office at 727-347-9702 or office@cathedralofstjude.org.
