Walking stick

Mark 6:7-11 – He summoned the Twelve…He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick—no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic…Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.

Warned

Mark 8:30 – Then he warned them not to tell anyone about him.

Watch

Mark 13: 32, 33, 35-37     – “But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. – Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. – Watch, therefore; you do not know when the lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning.  May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!’”

Mark 14:32-39 – Sit here while I pray… Could you not keep watch for one hour?  Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test.  The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” Withdrawing again, he prayed, saying the same thing.

Watch out

Mark 8:15 – Watch out, guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

Mark 13:9-13 – “Watch out for yourselves…, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say

Welcomed

Matthew 25:35 & 36 & 45- gave me food…gave me drink…welcomed me…clothed me…cared for me…visited me

When you hold a lunch or a dinner

Luke 14:12-14 – When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors…when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind

When you pray say

Luke 11:2-4 – When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.  Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test.”

When you see

Matthew 24:15-24 –  “When you see the desolating abomination spoken of through Daniel the prophet standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),then those in Judea must flee to the mountains,  a person on the housetop must not go down to get things out of his house, person in the field must not return to get his cloak…Pray that your flight not be in winter or on the Sabbath…If anyone says to you then, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. False messiahs and false prophets will arise, and they will perform signs and wonders so great as to deceive, if that were possible, even the elect. Behold, I have told it to you beforehand. So if they say to you, ‘He is in the desert,’ do not go out there; if they say, ‘He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.

Will

Matthew 7:21 –[do] the will of my Father in heaven

Winter

Matthew 24:15-24 –  “When you see the desolating abomination spoken of through Daniel the prophet standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),then those in Judea must flee to the mountains,  a person on the housetop must not go down to get things out of his house, person in the field must not return to get his cloak…Pray that your flight not be in winter or on the Sabbath…If anyone says to you then, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. So if they say to you, ‘He is in the desert,’ do not go out there; if they say, ‘He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.

Wish it peace

Matthew 10:5-14 – Jesus sent out these twelve…Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town.  Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.  Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts; no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep.  Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave. As you enter a house, wish it peace. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you.  Whoever will not receive you or listen to your words—go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet.

Without neglecting

Matthew 23:23 – You pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and fidelity. [But] these you should have done, without neglecting the others.

Wooden Beam

Matthew 7:1, 5 – “Stop judging…remove the wooden beam from your eye first

Worry

Matthew 6:25, 31 – do not worry about your life, what you will eat [or drink], or about your body, what you will wear…So do not worry and say, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear?’

Matthew 6:34 – Do not worry about tomorrow

Matthew 10:16-20 – so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves… beware of people…When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say

Worship

Luke 4:8 – You shall worship the Lord, your God, and him alone shall you serve.’

Yes and No

Matthew 5:33-37 –  do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black.  Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’

You cannot serve God and mammon

Luke 16:9-13 – I tell you, make friends for yourselves with dishonest wealth…You cannot serve God and mammon.”

You shall love

Mark 12:29-31 – ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

You shall not

Mark 10:18-21 – ‘You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; you shall not defraud; honor your father and your mother…Go, sell what you have, and give to [the] poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”

Luke 18:20-22 – You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother… sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
